World Cup 2022: Pakistan appoints dedicated physiotherapist for Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman

During the T20 World Cup in Australia, the Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed a dedicated physiotherapist to look after Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman.

Dr Javed Akhtar Mughal, a London-based physiotherapist, has been asked to join the players due to the nature of the knee injuries suffered by Afridi and Fakhar.

Shaheen and Fakhar went through a rehabilitation process in London that Dr Mughal was part of, so he understands their injuries very well. Because of this, the chairman of the PCB decided that Shaheen, in particular, needed dedicated care during the World Cup.”

Further, he said that the PCB viewed both players as being assets for Pakistan cricket and that he sent Dr Mughal to Australia because of his expertise in knee injuries and their recovery process.

Both of them will be taken care of by him during the event. It was he who was in charge of Shaheen’s rehabilitation when he saw Fakhar and Shaheen use Crystal Palace’s facilities.”

Before a decision can be made on whether they can be included in the World Cup squad, Afrdidi and Fakhar will play in two warm-up matches against England and Afghanistan.

The opening match of the World Cup will be played at Melbourne on October 23 by Pakistan and India.

Fakhar was injured in the Asia Cup final in Dubai in the week following the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle, while Afridi sustained a knee injury while fielding during the first Test at Galle. Last month, both went to London for rehab.
